It's simply impossible to avoid it especially if your game has open larger areas as you need lots of LOD models and textures which adds up.

i remember memes being made about force unleashed being 30GB. which even to this day, that seriously should be the cutoff. no reason a game should be going to triple digits AT ALL. with emulation it puts it all into perspective too. i could have the 100+ amazing classic games OR 1 mid modern game 💀

The culprit is the unwillingness to introduce selective downloads to reduce size, pretty sure most people only want one voiced language and also a very big chunk of users dont care about the massive 4k textures. But I do agree with you, fuck this meme.

some games do this on steam already. space marine 2's install goes from 92GB to 214GB if you install the 122GB free 4K texture pack dlc i feel like i even remember some games doing it 15y ago with 'hi-res texture packs' that made the game not look bad at 1080p lol

I remember back on launch, SF6 I think was closer to 60 gigs? It also had the ability to uninstall select modes like World Tour. But over the course of updates it ballooned into 100 GB.
