Hello from #CraftConf Budapest! As always, I'll be doing my best to liveskeet all the talks I attend (until my computer runs out of battery, which happens earlier every year) Keynote speaker: "Slow Down to Speed up", @gergely.pragmaticengineer.com

Gergely wrote The Software Engineer's Guidebook, which ran out stock on day one, despite being print on demand. Was just translated into Hungarian! "Hands up if you're having a good week." Your week is probably better if you don't work at Meta, because they're are dealing with the Instagram Exploit

The exploit: 1. Change your IP address to the target's geolocation and tell the support you've been hacked, asking them to send a reset to attacker email 2. No step 2. Meta's CISO immediately resigned. Gergely had inside contacts: the code was written by AI, reviewed by AI, while tokenmaxxing

Meta had a token leaderboard and AI usage was part of promotion evaluations. Devs would use AI for EVERYTHING, including review and making documentation. Then Meta announced layoffs, and devs tried to keep their jobs by... using AI more. #CraftConf

+ AI Pyschosis: 40% of trust and safety was forcibly moved to doing AI training data labeling. Meta has ~5,000 developers doing manual AI data labelling. Some teams on Instagram no longer have oncall coverage. This is a fully self-inflicted problem. The model's more important than their business.
