A lot of transit systems assume all their riders are seasoned riders who live in their city. This makes it really difficult to attract both new local riders and casual visitors. Secret rules help nobody, but they're really common. "Oh everyone knows this bus stops over there now!"

"DIDN'T YOU SEE THE BIG TRIANGLE SIGN IN THE ROAD??!!" shouted the bus driver? Like no, man, I'm on foot. I saw the crosswalk and the sign that said "Bus Stop." I'm not looking at road conditions 100 yards away around the bend.

None of the mapping apps (Apple, Google, Transit) took the change into consideration when routing. I was able to get on the bus by running up to it and flagging down the driver.
