We will not eradicate poverty without ending the #WarOnDrugs. Poverty and related social exclusion can increase vulnerability to problematic drug use and drug-related harms. Yet those most in need of care and support too often face punishment and neglect instead.

Discriminatory policing in poorer neighbourhoods, inadequate harm reduction and crackdowns on survival economies — including low-level drug supply and sex work — deepen marginalisation. The consequences can include eviction, job loss, denial of welfare and family separation.
