Something I *will* essay about is that every discussion with differing opinions have become life or death online. I feel bad when someone disagrees with me and feels the need to apologize because we have built a culture of online thought homogeny where any disagreement has been viewed as betrayal.

Then there are those who don't know how to engage in disagreement and instead leads with disrespect. Then when called out will act like you can't take criticism. No, dawg. You're just not able to call me stupid because I didn't like your favorite episode of [insert nerd property here].

Online engagement always feels like talking on stage to me, vs talking in person. The audience changes the tone. The oohs and ahhs and cheers and boos of onlookers make everything seem *DRAMATIC!* Everyday statements become *DECLARATIONS!* Differing opinions become *JABS!*

I just want to be able to say "I couldn't get into [show/movie/book/influencer/etc]" without having to explain my morality and prove it's for the right reasons. It's starting to bleed into reality from social media. I honestly don't even keep up with popular film anymore

This is why I wish every time you wanted to post something on the internet you had to wait a literal minute, then click the post button again. “You sure you mean this, buddy? You sure it’s worth sending a death threat because he thinks the 10th Doctor is overrated?”

It’s actually insane how Ad Hom is at the front of so many peoples toolkits, once they engage with it… I disengage, because I know they can’t in good faith engage with my point, so instead they’re trying to attack ME.

Had this conversation recently. Was introduced to a friend of a friend at a bar. Brought up Lost/Abrams Star Trek. I said Into Darkness is over hated bc of the marketing but it dissects Bush Jr era war ethics. Guy repeated how bad the movie was, told me I had no taste. Couldn’t tell me why though 🤷🏻‍♂️
