The internet is the largest cooperation project in human history. Millions building shared protocols, open standards, free software — producing infrastructure that trillions in closed competition couldn't match. If that's not proof we can build better systems together, what is?

The internet is a sword, two sharp edges, whoever wields it has the power to influence and control as well as the power to set us free. Sadly it's being used for the former I also wonder about what would happen to 'free thinking' if it was turned off? Is the internet a drug?

Well said - but influence is NOT control. We all have the power to decide, and the power to hit the off-switch if we want. A person can seek knowledge online, or they can ALLOW themselves to be told what to think. But it’s still a choice each of us have.

That all sounds negative, but it doesn't have to be, shared information, built connections an empathic world is possible and the internet much like the web it's so often likened to can play an important part. Perhaps we're building Indra's web

Even better said! In the end, the internet is also proof of what happens when we hand our greatest achievement over to advertising agencies and oligarchs. The internet was beautiful until Google monetized it thru ad revenue. Luckily, we still have have a choice in what we consume.

We have to keep in mind that we are battling algorithms, designed initially to push content that we might like, in effect sell produce to us Unfortunately those same algorithms can be easily weighted and are being used to steer. We need to burst the bubbles to gain (trans-personal perspective?)
