Something many people do not know is that members of the US military (including the National Guard) don't get paid during government shutdowns unless the Congress passes a separate bill for it. Which it hasn't yet. \1

Will ICE get paid during the shutdown? Will they get the ridiculous perks ($50k sign on bonuses and student loan forgiveness)? Asking out of pure ignorance and potentially excitement.

The US government is allowed to *not pay them* as long as it acknowledges that it *owes them* the money. Yes. Really. So in addition to being part of a political intimidation campaign that most of them despise, US military families now get to try and survive *with no income* \2

Since Johnson is refusing to call Congress back into session because of fear that a vote on releasing the Epstein files will happen when newly elected Democrats are sworn in, I'm sure this will make the military all just LOVE Trump and his authoritarian project \s \fin
