Yesterday, campaigners and an opposition spokesperson criticised the unwillingness of the Government to keep active travel in line with inflation. As reported by this website, to keep pace with inflation since October 2020, the €360 million-a-year investment in active travel would need to rise to over €510 million today.

Interesting fact,I lived across the road from these shops. Bread prices were set by law and varied by a farthing between summer and winter. Bread was the only thing priced to the farthing and since there were not many around jm & ob printed little chits with farthing credit on them.

I found that they would often have a few farthings in the till and used to get any chits and bring them in one at a time and request they swap it for a real farthing. I ended up with a fair few farthings for a while.

Dept responses are not congruent with the facts I agree that councils procurement must ensure good value for money, but if investment is in decline we also need to ensure builds are of top quality & world leading - not full of compromises and poor decisions
