We're just excited about dialing keys, because we've found this pattern to be really useful! It's nice to not have to take care of TLS certificates, and to have mutual TLS out of the box and not have to worry about setting up DNS, etc. Your devices just connect :)

Thanks Philipp! I took a look. Having a bit of trouble understanding what iroh in the browser does. Does it always communicate via http requests? Also, In the chat example, I created a room in one tab but was not able to join it in another.

It took us 4 years and 65 releases of iterating on iroh to get to this 1.0. It'll be fun to look back in the coming days & weeks when we'll talk about how iroh evolved to get to this 1.0.

v1.0 🎉 "Dial keys, not IPs" clicks immediately — that framing alone drops the mental overhead of p2p significantly. We've been evaluating connectivity layers for offline-capable features in client products at makstudio.tech and this is exactly the primitive we were looking for.

I have been living under a rock. Superb project! Wondering if I can use iroh infra for Device ID (pub key) resolution (dns/pkarr) to efficiently track and prove blocks of content (push or pull) from a streaming (or record-at-a-time) device, using a new commitment scheme I've developed (in java).

mainline bep_0044 is just the ability to store a tiny amount of data (up to 1000 bytes) for an Ed25519 keypair. You need a mainline implementation though. Maybe this one github.com/the8472/mldht ? pkarr uses bep_0044 and defines the storage format as signed DNS records.

Contemplated porting the base scheme to c/c++, rust, or zig. I'm not good at the latter two languages and might use an agent to pair-program it (I must understand the code).

Thank you for pointing me there. I'll definitely take a look. Blake3 has some common properties with my scheme (equal storage overhead for eg); I believe my scheme has advantages tho, obv.
