@tomscott.com you will absolutely get YouTube comments about this when Ep 23 goes live on YT but that "basically a gaming console" is a Steam Deck and its been wonderful for all sorts of research projects and other uses. I use mine as a mobile network pentest suite among other things

When you are testing things that need to drive, especially autonomously or remotely, it's often cheaper to use off-the shelf hardware like Xbox controllers than to build a bespoke solution. The steam deck cuts out the PC middle-man that's often includes by just being a Linux box with joysticks.

I would have loved for the deck to have been on the market when I was working on the NASA robotics team at my college. We had to move our rover simulator with the arrow keys on a laptop...

Speaking of that project. I need to start watching the published papers again to see if any of our Lidar work gets cited because we were using lidar scanners for some of the stuff Airbus was using stereo cameras for in this last episode.
