Doing some more research on the Sierra SCI "undocumented" mono commands. Think this is a "correct" implementation: - Setting VISUAL *always* sets MONO to PAL mode of the same pal index - Clearing VISUAL *always* clears MONO

However, just like the CEL command that seemingly only exists for one background in Quest for Glory 2 (which could have just as easily been implemented with a VIEW sprite, tbh), this is another weird quirk of the SCI engine that was, under utilized. But it was a cool feature, for sure!

- Setting MONO or MONO_DIRECT overrides current val - Clearing MONO or MONO_DIRECT clears both MONO and MONO_DIRECT value. (They are effectively the same opcode) - Setting or clearing MONO/MONO_DIRECT does not effect VISUAL. - SET_MONO uses the mono lookup table. SET_MONO_DIRECT sets a raw value.

the HERCMONO.DRV scales up the 320×200 canvas by 4∶3 (or 2∶1.5) and centers the 640×300 image on the 720 × 350 screen buffer—I'd guess that vertical odd-lines are doubled? maybe? The dithers though are pixeled at the native resolution. Which both makes sense and is interesting.
