I heard a second-hand story from a family member about a couple trying to cross the Canada-US border, and the American customs officer asked them what they think of Trump's 51st state comments. They said, "Honestly we don't think highly of it." Then they were refused entry.

We've got to try really hard to keep that out of Canada. A lot of people in Canada agree with and worship Trump. One of them is trying to get back into leading the opposition.

UK person here. I did a bit of a road trip in some of the Southern States of the US 10 yrs ago. Was in a motel room in Birmingham Alabama when Trump announced he was running. Met various lovely people, but was really struck at times by how many folks believed we loved all US things - including guns

I really think most Americans have no idea how much damage has been done to their country's reputation, in the eyes of their closest allies, over such a short period of time.

Not surprised. In 2018 I was asked at the Point Roberts crossing if I had ever applied for a position at CSIS to which I responded yes. One lad with a USMC tattoo on his hand asked if Canadian Security Intelligence Service was an oxymoron... I was turned away with no explanation.
