people are always saying anti-AI arguments don’t understand the full nuances of the technology. which is correct. but only because it stole everyone’s work, exists solely to get you fired, has made the entire internet unusable and has been forced on everyone without consent

on some level, you have to accept that yes, people are reacting emotionally without doing detailed research but really you can’t blame them or stop them. this was some bullshit not a single one of us had to think about three years ago and now it’s making shit worse in like most daily interactions

also. the thing people hate is not ‘the technology’ it is the tech industry. they hate move fast and break things. they hate having everything they say tracked and processed while companies do whatever they want. they hate every single ideological value that animates silicon valley

Exactly! Why do these folks expect a “rational response” to be to look at this thing that has tangibly made their life worse and more expensive, and go “we SHOULD start weighing the benefits” like fuck no! That conversation can’t logically happen right now

And anyone who has more smoke for “people being annoying about being anti AI” are doing that thing where they’re feeling mildly irritated at what is honestly a very normal emotional response to the scale of this shit, and somehow going “yeah the irritated ppl are at fault here” like what

Sometimes, I walk in on DeviantArt on accident, and the place is just a never-ending nightmare of people at each other's throats over the technology. Most recently, those who support AI are now trying to claim that art supplies are destroying the environment.

It's a ridiculous argument always. "Well you also use x, which is evil too because of y" and its like ok sure, even if you somehow (in bad faith might I add) ignore the scale difference and the economic bubble, what is this technology doing that we can't already besides making it faster

It's not even like doing it faster is making it any better. Sure, I can put the burner on high and sear a steak in a few minutes, but the result will only look done from the outside. It's just a millimeter worth of cooking on the edges while the inside is still completely unsafe to consume.

The only people who have an excuse to use this shit are the people who are, broadly speaking, forced into it by either reckless deadlines or the c-suite forcing it for investors. There is no advantage beyond time, it's why the hobbyist space is particularly aggressive towards it.

I'm absolutely scared of what will come to the ROM hacking scene ever since they started using Vibe code there. It's supposed to have a barrier to entry so that you have to give a fuck about the project in order to end up with something you can publish.

It is indeed insane how much they try to fork off all the labor to "save the environment" when the impact just one company causes will erase any progress the 90% put in. Additionally more importantly, the fact that somehow it worked on the population. God I fucking hate greenwashing...
