I truly do get the irony here! Imo subscription-driven websites trying not to get our entire livelihoods get scraped by AI is slightly different than a restaurant you would be giving money to anyway, but none of us is immune from Data

Got two and a half sentences into a story (presumably!) about it being annoying to be asked for your phone number as soon as you enter a restaurant for the first time, and the site that I was visiting for the first time prompted me for my email before I could finish the paragraph 🤷‍♀️

I think there’s also a difference between an independent website asking if you’d like to give them your email vs. a restaurant already knowing info on you based on a contact method you didn’t give them personally
