I just hope that the day Reddit finally goes extinct, the actual useful info that shows up on there can be preserved instead of being lost to time. Maybe we can also finally realize that the idea of one central forum replacing independent forums was a shitty one.

I think I hope so too. I have been using it since 2006 and it’s been bad for over a decade now, probably longer. The only good way to use it is to use it like a forum platform and visit specific subreddits intentionally.

But I agree with your last point. I think any online social community that gets too big ends up awful. Reddit tried to pitch the idea of subreddits being enclaves but it just never worked out that way. There’s no real walls between communities, so all of reddit is just all of reddit

I only found this out because I was noticing this over the course of the last few days and so searched for threads discussing it. I am constantly seeing (at the top) lowscore comments with absolute shit takes and a ton of comments arguing with the poster. It feels like typical engagement bait trash.
