Giving an agent read-only access to the telemetry data of a well-instrumented system and asking a question is a wild experience They are very good at this, easily better than the vast majority of engineers, and unlike engineers their attention is very cheap

saw someone say AI can’t write SQL some data for anyone that cares - @honeycomb.io offers agents a query tool against our datastore; it’s a custom JSON schema, which means it’s very unlikely to be something models know very well from the jump

We've got a subset of telemetry data in snowflake, loaded into fairly standard fact and dimension tables. Point ai at these tables with barely any context and the insights are amazing. Engineering, field and customer support teams are using this daily, and seeing massive value.

the other week, I told an agent "here are three API endpoints with their documentation, and these are the relationships between the fields in their returned JSON objects. please list all the objects that..." and waited 5 minutes for the answer 10/10 experience

As a corollary to this, observability tools should expect a *lot* of growth in query volume. Users that hook agents up end up doing orders-of-magnitude more queries

Separating compute and storage goes from a nice-to-have to absolutely necessary FireTiger was recently acquired, but I think their approach of “just give an agent a machine and duckdb and let it go ham” was very underrated bsky.app/profile/jere...

"Land OTLP on an object store as parquet" and then "Give an agent duckdb" is probably the 80-20 galaxy brain move for o11y in 2026

I don’t want to bang on too much about ClickHouse cloud, but it really is magical for this. Whack a read only replica on a warehouse is magic. Things like being able to set profile boundaries like a default max mem of 1GB, but allowing agents to override to 10GB memory is also magic.

The underrated part of "well-instrumented" is the "well-documented instrumentation". Document the attributes and spans in a way the agent can read them and it's goes for 2x to 10x useful pretty quickly. I'm doing this on my side project app, and it makes sonnet feel like fable.

This is easier than ever! bsky.app/profile/jere...

Current status, I fed my wide events blog post into Sol, told it about @ctrlspice.bsky.social's otel-desktop-viewer, and now it's going to town adding instrumentation on my vibe-coded sandbox project The agent calls the API directly, and I get to follow along with a pretty UI. This is.. really nice

I mean sure but some of have inherited 6 domain monorepos with 40 comitters, sloppy boundaries and scant instrumentation and “everyone owns it” which as we all know means no one does.
