Peregrine Falcons are not frequent visitors to the park, so it was a special treat to have this juvenile make a visit. The bird perched for a few minutes before speeding off across the lake.

Great image. We did have them in small numbers every winter as the species was recovering. I had the great good fortune once to be sitting out near one of the artificial waterholes, half daydreaming, when a terrified white-wing dove fell out of the sky as fast as it could, with a peregrine right

behind. I think my being there startled both birds; there was good cover for the dove very close, just across the water, but the dove did a not-quite U-ie, and fled across the little meadow at about waist height, zig-zagging, with the peregrine gaining on the straight bits and losing a little on

the dove's knife-sharp turns. On the far side of the little meadow, the dove right into some thick brush, and the peregrine swerved away and climbed like a little windstorm, 2 or 3 upward spirals and then away over the trees.

How in The world are you able to always catch these stunning photos . You must spend most of your time in the woods and parks how wonderful .. what a way to spend your time taking photographs. You-really should apply to a gallery for a photography show z!

Fabulous shot! Fascinating birds of prey, as I’m sure you know. 😊 Here in Jersey, some pairs nest atop skyscrapers, including one at 101 Hudson Street in Jersey City. Fell in love with these raptors watching their webcam, which sadly is no longer active. For anyone interested ⬇️ … I ❤️Cornell Lab
