For me one of the things that has made last-10-years-ish capitalism so much worse was you used to be able to say things like "firing people is expensive", or otherwise prevail upon the basic truth that the right thing to do is sometimes also the strictly profit-motivated thing to do... now you can't

It no longer matters if it's cheaper not to do layoffs, or you stand to quadruple your money doing some cool thing...if it's cruel they do it. it's strictly about immediate-term wealth transfer. They will sacrifice a billion dollars next week if it means fucking an extra million out of you right now

Twenty years of them sending people out to do company wide speeches with that damn flawed marshmallow test and it turns out the C-Level and Shareholders are the real impulsive ones with no patience.

Not a great sign for what they think the future is going to look like. I don’t think they have any real awareness of climate collapse or the impending financial crisis but they feel it on some level. Definitely a “party is ending, stuff some liquor in your pockets” vibe to everything right now

We’ve all had times in our life where we know we’re not putting in enough thought and effort for something to continue. It can be a friendship, a romantic relationship, a job, a hobby, anything. I think the ultra-wealthy are experiencing this en masse right now.

There are mature ways to handle endings, but these people never develop those skills. They’re mental toddlers. Only instant gratification can satisfy them, and the standard for gratification is increasingly impossible to meet. If you’re a striver, if you have nothing else, of course it is.

If Elon, or Trump, or Thiel, or any other ghoul you wanna name aren’t seeing numbers go up in their bank account, what can they turn to? A loving family? An evening walk in crisp fall air? A hobby they’re slowly improving at? Of course not. They’re as broken as the men they sell their products to.

In general there seems to be this big ideological push that if something you do would make someone happy, well, that’s a subjective reason, so the objective course of action is to do the opposite
