Tea people: I want to love tea. But trying to drink a cup of ginger tea right now and it tastes like someone blended potpourri into water. What am I missing

If it is too strong the water may have been too hot and/or it was steeped too long. Usually herbal teas need to be steeped at a lower temperature and for a shorter amount of time than other teas.

We have an electric tea kettle that can be set to a few temperatures. Before that, I use to microwave the water and I had a sense of how long the water needed to be microwaved. For black tea it needs to be just below the boiling temperature of water. Herbal tea needs to be lower. ~190 for 3 minutes
