Tried to make my terrain graphics look better from top-down, and it worked out much better than I thought? #gamedev #screenshotsaturday

Didn't get to finish everything yet, but the result already looks better at an angle too. Using a kind of pseudo-billboard for each tile. They stand up and draw an outline whenever the tile’s normal aligns nicely with the camera.

Same location, but looking the other way. (I think I broke something about the lighting: oddly much shadow in all of these.)

Ok, just a few more shots! Glad the outlines are holding up even on those cliff spires. Style definitely favors distant views like this, which isn’t optimal because my gameplay (not shown off yet) requires closer views. Just gotta force them to play nice somehow.

Last set: the first shot but with different lighting conditions. All very shadowy because something's broken, and the deep blue one's kinda getting wrecked by image compression, but I quite like them all anyway.
