In keeping with my gradually lowering sanity I have now recalled a thing that I had forgotten related to ESR:

In 2017 I was working at a late-stage startup in PDX and one day I was talking to my team and shared my thoughts about how ESR was generally an asshole

My manager at the time stopped what he was doing to interrupt and tell me that ESR was Good, Actually and that I shouldn't be so mean. In retrospect this was a pretty significant red flag, I think
