We're in the countdown to the #InternetNZ board elections. Deliberation is ongoing, but here are my ranked preferences as of 20/07/2026: 1 Bianca Grizhar 2 Keoni Mahelona 3 Daniel Spector 4 Annette Culpan 5 Nabil Sabio Azadi ? David Chisholm No Douglas Brown No Jan Rivers No Jillaine Heather

There are some significant movements in rank, what's happened? Well... I've been looking at their engagement, the posted candidate statements, talking to people that know some of the candidates, and talking to some of the candidates themselves. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

Mahelona has dropped significantly. This is due to multiple conversations I've had with folks who know him professionally as well as a very light candidate statement and not much general engagement. bsky.app/profile/jpda... I haven't spoken with Keoni himself. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

I haven't been able to connect with Keoni himself. There are acquaintances who like him but I've spoken to folks who have worked more closely with him & they're less positive. He's clearly very smart, the issue seems to be one of consistent follow-through. He'll be moving down my list considerably

Spector has moved up. I had a good conversation with him that, if anything, increased my confidence that he would be a strong and effective voice if reelected. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

Azadi has moved up from 5 to 3. His excellent response in Nethub (INZ's Slack) as well as his candidate statement were a big contributor. I also had a conversation with him and he understands the situation he would be stepping into and I think could navigate it. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

Azadi's main detraction is his lack of experience sitting on boards (although he has significant experience interacting with and understanding them). This is what puts him behind Grizhar & Spector. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

Culpan stays at 4. I actually really like her! Her candidate statement and video are excellent and her non-profit & philanthropic governance knowledge are excellent! If we were in less tumultuous times I'd consider her a shoe in. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

But I'm not sure if Culpan is prepared for the situation the board will be entering. In fairness to Culpan I have not spoken to her so have not been able to ask. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

Chrisholm effectively stays at 6. Although I did very much enjoy his candidate video & statement (he seems lovely) I don't think he has the mix of experience and tenacity that we're going to need. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

I have ranked Rivers at 7. This has caused something of a kerfuffle as I previously had her unranked. However... With the STV voting system if there is a lesser evil, it is best to rank it. I feel Rivers would be less effective than Brown or Heather. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

I am leaving both Brown & Heather unranked. There has been some debate around if one is worse than the other but honestly I think its academic. They're both FSU lawyers and would be effective at throwing sand in the gears. I would rather ensure my vote went to neither. #InternetNZ #INZReckons

And now that I've gotten to the end I've realised I forgot to mention Grizhar who I've kept at 1. I've had a good chat with Grizhar and I think she's the best fit for the board member we need now. She understand the situation, is responsive, experienced, and tenacious. #InternetNZ #INZReckons
