I'm trying to plan a deep-dive into the Rails source workshop for next Friday. What do you want to see? Anything in particular that seems mysterious or daunting that we could break down?

Why? Rails is your biggest dependency and you probably haven't seen what's going on in there. There's features you're missing out on entirely, and other ones Upgrades seem fraught and daunting and it's tough to know what to do.

The good news is: it's not that bad to dive into the Rails source, particularly if you have a guide. Once you're comfortable clicking around a whole slew of things open up for you: - You can see the actual APIs you're using - You can understand associations fully - You can demystify Active Record!

- You can learn new Ruby methods/tricks - ^ this can also accelerate your learning greatly - ^ once you learn how to dive into Rails no other gem will feel dangerous - ^ now you can evaluate other dependencies much better - ^ your code design can improve inspired from gems

Also: if you're looking to level yourself up here at the end of the year, I'm doing 1-1 calls. I can help with a bunch of stuff, send me your DM and I'll tell you if I can help, looking forward to seeing you! bsky.app/profile/kasp...

I'm doing a limited run of calls at a very good price to help you level up, like a salmon hops up a stream. Only between Sunday 15 Dec and Friday 20 Dec, so: Salmon Swim Upstream and So Can You savvycal.com/kaspth

Tbh that’s fairly expensive. I might do it bc I’ve always wanted to spend more time with the Rails codebase. But it’d be a no-brainer at like $49

Personally I've had an immense level-up in my career from being able to do this kind of code deep-dive — and it still compounds years on. I'm thinking this is $250 now since I'm looking at B2B really.
