These memories are magic. Last night Alice Cooper told a story about meeting Elvis (“not fat Elvis, not drugged Elvis - *Elvis*”) and seeing how fame kept him prisoner at home, and he never wanted that for himself so he will happily sign and take photos so he can still be out on the street.

While we're at it, might as well share Tom Baker's perennial masterpiece.

Elvis also handed him a loaded gun from the kitchen drawer (sure!!) and in the time Alice was weighing up the impact of shooting Elvis vs the story of shooting Elvis, Elvis disarmed him and had him on the floor with his boot at his throat.

Then he offered to show Alice his most valuable possession which turned out to be an X-ray of some guys he had put in hospital singlehandedly after they tried to take him on for being Elvis. “I hope Taylor Swift can go outside but I’m not sure she can,” was the takeaway.

Arthur Brown’s terrible hosting aside, I could listen to Alice Cooper’s stories for hours. His ones about Keith Moon were not only hilarious and mad, but reminded you these were his contemporaries, older rock siblings and friends before they were Ye Rocke Historie.

And oh God, the stranger than fiction irony of, shortly after the chicken incident, staying in a hotel and meeting Colonel Sanders of KFC fame. “A man who had killed literally millions of chickens and I hadn’t even killed one.” And with perfect timing, displaying this photo as proof.
