I am increasingly baffled by how I ended up without this weirdness despite being cis. Hell I tend to prefer stories with a female lead because, as a both cis and het man, I do this crazy thing that a majority of my fellows seem not to do: love women.

Need this guy to tell me if it makes me less of a man that my hard-bitten Imperial Guard Veteran in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has digital breasts but also has killed 60,000 some heretics and daemons with a rifle.

oh hey, something I talked about in college and could observe in reading tutoring. with a sprinkling of "kidlit lore I picked up bsky recently." kids will read books that are interesting and challenging, regardless of the protagonist's sex, but there's a dearth of male-led kidlit right now.

I got that "only reads books from male authors" dna If I even look at an Ursula Le Guin book, I break out in hives Rowling gave me a lifelong illness when she hid under those masc nom de plumes

I do prefer reading women, POC, and queer authors. Because the protagonists won't ALWAYS be cis het white men. Not always true, of course, just boringly predictable.
