I really wish people aspiring to write understood what a competitive advantage being able to write without AI will be in the coming years.

It gets even worse. There are people using AI as a feedback tool to improve their writing, the stuff that comes out of their fingers. Why does that matter? When you have an editor than can give whole book feedback in minutes not weeks, the iteration cycle speeds up. A lot.

It’s done that for me as a software engineer and it works just as well for prose as for code. I asked my ex boyfriend, who writes romance novels for a living, about using AI as an editor. He said every writer he knows is using it for editing but nobody’s talking out loud about it.

I know the story well. It’s been repacked over the years for various techs. The first time I saw it was in college, in the 80’s, about calculators. There were people using slide rules that felt calculators made people stupid. Again for publishing on the web. And for smart phones. And likely more.
