Good morning, #Septopolis. ACAB and all but perhaps your world actually has a functioning civil servant system. Maybe it's self policing with its community. In any case, how is order upheld and what constitutes "order?" If it fits here... your #Juniplex system may be worth tagging in!

First up on the last up is yes, the Traveler's Guild I fleshed out during my #Juniplex is their larger defense force. Standing armies aren't much of a thing here. It was tried once upon a time, but they took their equivalent of a world war and went "wow this is terrible, actually never again."

A huge motivator for crime is to fulfill basic needs. By covering basic needs, a majority of the typical "visible" crime (I gag) would be incredibly uncommon here. Because of this, the role of police would be truly more like a civil servant and the requirements for the job would be far stricter.

Their academies require psychological evaluations throughout the process from acceptance to graduation to correct worrisome behavior before it sets in permanently or weed out those already unfit for servants to the public, not as enforcers above them who can shoot a guy and get a vacation for it.

As far as an unusual law... this is freshly pondered, but I think a silly thing important for public comfort is that flighted beluan with wing beats that produce noise equivalent to a semi's engine brake are forbidden from being used for travel across the city.
