I'm kinda tired of digital newspapers hiding content behind a paywall. Most interesting articles I see circulating here, I can't read unless I pay for it. Don't get me wrong I know that journalists don't live out of thin air, but aren't there any other viable business model?

The whole ad driven business model is hurt by ai and we need something new. Search engines and cards were bad enough at extracting content without credit, but this is on another level. I can't think of a way to fix this without a worse user experience or regulations.

Wait wait wait are you saying AI is causing problems? We need regulations, Internet is our shared playground, it deeply influences our lives, but we are way way too far behind on safety. We need a more solid international law system, just so we don't go full dystopian 🤷‍♂️

Regulation also leads to bad user experience. Like the frustrating cookie popups. Sometimes it's good though with the easy subscription cancellation. I think credit with mandatory links to sources should be a good start. Maybe mandatory bot user agent. Hard to enforce any of it, no incentives.

Definitely a complex problem that ties into many many more complex problems. Just had a big "la société c'est vraiment nul" moment from thinking about all this, I guess I'll just keep ranting on bluesky in order to stay sane 😅
