It’s funny. Most of the tech tyrants in these types of movies are presented as benevolent overlords whose technologies take them over. Like some Greek tragedy they are victims of their own genius. In actuality they are greedy power mongerers more along the lines of a real life Bond villain.

I’m sorry. A petition with a million signatures sounds great. But they’d just wipe their virtual asses with it and keep on destroying the world. The only thing they listen to is the sound of the cash register. When they feel the pain in their wallet they might stop and listen.
