Since we were too busy at the booth for me to do my CanLander presentation at #MCVegas, I don't want it to go to waste. So without further ado, 🧵

You draw your opening hand. In it you find: - A Mox Jet - A Mox Pearl - A Mox Emerald - A White Plume Adventurer - And some other cards You ponder whether or not to keep this opening hand. Three Mox in your 100-card deck?! How can that be?! Aren't those banned in Commander???

Well, my friend, this wonderful opening hand is all possible thanks to a gift from our poutine-making, "Set The Tone"-ing, TimBits-eating, wonderful neighbors to the north! This is my presentation about Canadian Highlander and why I think it's a better 100-card singleton format than Commander.

Why yes, “set the tone” is an appropriate way to describe walking into YJ, sitting down, and getting your face ground into the pavement by a Storm deck. Feels exactly like stepping off the bench out onto the ice and having one the Jims run you over with all the regard a Mac truck shows a pylon.

First off, What is CanLander? It is a 100-card Singleton format like Commander. You have 10 points that you can spend on all of the most broken cards in Magic. Want a Black Lotus? That'll cost you 8 points Sol Ring? 3 points Treasure Cruise? 1 point It's also 1v1, best of three. NOT multiplayer.

Which leads to "What ISN'T CanLander?" Well, it's not not awesome. That's for sure. It's also not Commander. While it is a 100-card singleton format, think of it more like a massive vintage deck. You don't start with 40 life. You start with 20 like traditional Magic and there are no Commanders.
