Your mum would not be in social housing today - the wait is decades long. Your mum would not qualify for dsp, definitely have no chance of getting ndis. And she would be relying on food banks and charity to feed and clothe herself because the rate of jobseeker is miles below the poverty line.

He’s like a boomer that tells you you just need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps but he keeps cutting your bootstraps. (I don’t even know what bootstraps are or how they help)

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" meant something figuratively and literally impossible. You were trying to lift yourself up by pulling up on a strap on your boot. Somehow this changed meaning from "doesn't matter how much effort you make!" into "work harder!"
