I’ve kept thinking back to Carney‘s NYT interview in September where Starlink was such an obvious national security risk for him, and Ukraine was a stated reason. “Starlink, we will diversify away from, no question.”

I couldn’t think of a solution that would make Canada and the EU run in the absolute opposite way any faster that nationalization. The problem right now is how close SpaceX and the US admin are. To remove all differentiation would send a chill down Ottawa’s and Brussels’ spines.

Oh for the AI stuff, it’s easily the thing where I think he sounds the least smart. Even with the sovereign AI angle, it’s not a great look. But I don’t think you need to look for cronyism as a justification to not rely on Starlink. That’s just self-preservation and when Carney‘s right, he’s right.

From the same NYT interview; the following paragraph. I’d expect partnerships, maybe even something to come out of that Canada-EU summit at the end of the month, if only in broad strokes.

Do you know how many times I thought about if or when the US and/or a billionaire owner might try to do some sort of disruption at scale? The blocking of ICJ judges’ Microsoft accounts but for a much larger ”enemy“ faction? It would be bad but also it would be suicide for any US service company.
