FINALLY I CAN TALK ABOUT IT. Coming April 2027, my next speculative mystery for adults, THE NIGHT THAT WASN'T, about a woman in her 40s who wakes up one morning to find herself in a totally different reality from the one in which she fell asleep.

In one world, she's married to the guy she's loved since high school. In the other, they haven't seen each other since the night of their graduation, which culminated in the violent death of one of their classmates.

When her husband goes missing, she must put together clues from both versions of her life in order to find him. The more she looks, the more she becomes convinced it all has to do with that night 25 years ago, when they either kissed for the first time, or walked away from each other for good.

I pitched this one to my editor as THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME meets SLIDING DOORS. It's a mystery wrapped in a quantum conundrum, dealing with the what-if questions we all ask about the paths our lives might have taken, but few ever get to explore.

Writing this was so fun—I got to include so many things that interest me: quantum theory, perimenopause, therapy and mental health, parenting, friendships, dogs, cats, memory, and so much more—and I'm so thrilled to finally be able to speak openly about it.

Thanks so much to Megha Parekh and Carmen Johnson Weber, my brilliant agent Holly Root and the incomparable team at Root Literary, and everyone else who has helped turn this book from an ambitious idea into an exciting reality.
