An open question for all: Where is the money that DOGE is disrupting going? Is there any accounting at all for this? It would be incredibly foolish to trust anybody, much less Musk in this. I hope we are not just assuming that it is all being returned to Treasury.

Yes, exactly. I am not an accountant (or auditor) but I believe that they do not go into bank accounts and move money back to payers, or stop authorized payments. Allowing Musk to do this with no oversight is damn foolishness. Nothing I’m saying addresses the underlying constitutional issues.

Is this money still under the exclusive control of congress/treasury, or can it be, uh, ‘diverted’. I’m wondering how our accounting systems are tracking this money. Is there any way now to know where this money wound up?

The second type of disruption is even more alarming (to me). The NYT reported that Musk successfully removed 80 million dollars from a bank in New York that had been paid by FEMA. Where is that money now?

Having that kind of power over the staggeringly huge amount of money treasury handles would seem to invite abuse beyond the U.S. simply (simply?) not paying it’s obligated debt.
