#BlueskyResistance #Voices4Victory #ProudBlue I think I have finally figured it out: MAGA is like the Catholic Church. Not for the obvious reasons. No, it’s because like Catholicism, MAGAism does not tolerate questions regarding their doctrine.

#ProudBlue It seems the Catholic experience isn't monolithic. That's true of all religions. Religion, like government & business, each can be a force for unity & good. But too many misusing it for personal ideology & power will damage the whole institution. We're on shaky ground on all three!

As a 50+ year Catholic; educated only in Catholic Schools and Uni, even taught CCD for 3 years to middle school kids, I can unequivocally say, THAT IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. We were taught to question everything we didn't grasp or believe in and at NO TIME were punished or silenced for it.

Good for you. However, your experience doesn’t necessarily speak to everyone’s experience, just as mine doesn’t. But, I can unequivocally say, it wasn’t like that in my catechism class.

It wasn't in my early school years, it was def ask no questions. It was much more open and relaxed by the time I got to high school in fact I had more young nuns as teachers than I did in grade school and 2 Jesuits for school priests. When I taught CCD, we even watched Jesus Christ Superstar.

YES!!! In high school I was literally yelled at and kicked out of class by a nun who looked furious like that. No ruler. Ruler was in fifth grade. I was the only one with hand up in religion class. I had a fierce sense of logic as a kid. I was not disrespectful. Just wanted clarification.😊

🤣 Hubs disagrees, Jesuits are the intellectuals, they want you to question everything. Belief is what is transformed into faith. When you believe something is “impossible” that is faith. You can & are encouraged to ask questions. I’m reporting his understanding - I’m a philosopher, not a believer!

Well, that wasn’t the way it was for me and the Catholic school that I went to. The nuns didn’t wanna hear anyone question what they were saying. Neither did the priests when they would come in once so we can teach catechism. It was never a discussion, it was programming.

I couldn’t say - I know our 1st grade son was told by a fellow student that he was going straight to hell because he wasn’t going to CDC after school. Hubs was thinking more of high school & college priests. They were always up for a lengthy discussion of interpretations of various Bible passages.
