"If I'm shoved out of the labor market because…I have two kids under 5 and I cannot afford childcare—I just have to stop working for five years—that's bad for the economy. We lose a worker. And for what it's worth, the size of the economy is very well predicted by the number of people working in it"

A mostly good interview. I'm not sure anything can be done to deal with local demand shocks caused by a town becoming suddenly popular with rich outsiders, except maybe fix the supply shortage in large rich cities so that people won't be tempted to look for deals elsewhere.

It's also not that big of problem on a federal scale. I'm sure the local middle class who are looking to buy a home are frustrated by being forced to wait because rich outsiders bought a higher place in the housing queue, but they should be able to do so once supply and demand stabilize.
