Hey fellow economists, does this strike you as a little sneaky? The Lyft app offers to “let” people reveal their willingness to pay if they pay a fee! Seems like a win-win for Lyft, not so much for the rider.

Would be if they offered transparent pricing and a commitment that all riders are offered the same fare, but I don’t believe that is the case. As presented, what stops them from charging the “surge-protected” customers higher prices based on their WTP?
