this is awesome actually. giant discord servers are where docs and information go to die, and having public servers (which anyone can find, join, and look at anyway!) be indexed by search engines is an objectively good thing in terms of making information more discoverable and accessible.

I suspect that making information more accessible for everyone, while good, is a side effect and in the year 2026 there's no way that the motivation is anything besides making it more scrapeable for ai training

idk why discord would want to make life easier for third parties to use their data for ai training tbh. if that was their angle there would be easier ways for them to get that data out and profit from it as well.

This is like the persistent rumor that there's a secret hidden official bot training AI on every server that you have to ban with secret commands instead of Discord just training AI on the logs they have access to in their servers in order for the software to function

I dunno maybe I'm just conditioned to flinch whenever a tech company announces anything anymore but it's not like these are companies known to do things for the greater good

All I'm saying re: the AI stuff is that it's a bit of an occam's razor thing where handing over the data in a format suited for training and whatnot would be much easier and quieter than this.

I mean there's definitely an incentive for them to do this. Think how right now any search will inevitably link back to reddit. If this goes well, then a lot of searches will start linking back to discord servers as well, giving them a ton of visibility they wouldn't have had before.
