Firefox's URL autocompletion has totally broken for me for some reason. At first it was annoying, but now after a couple days I'm quite liking it? My web browsing is much more intentional now, and I'm not habitually opening the news and social media as often.

I've been thinking quite a bit these days that a frictionless experience may be a local-maxima overall. A healthy brain and strong attention-span brings much more benefits to my life than a more convenient computing experience.

The most focused I've been was around the same time I was experimenting with running my workstation without x11 or any graphical UI at all. This is obviously a bit extreme and impractical, but perhaps I should experiment with stripping everything back once more.

Anyway, I'm now too scared to restart firefox, in case it starts working again.

I believe you can toggle this off deliberately, under “Search > Firefox Suggest” in the settings menu. I’ve had it off for a while and found the same focus benefits you’re describing
