Am I the only one who thinks, actually the alert system should be used for something more useful than "you're about to die lol"? Sure it's common sense that the country is dry and fire is bad, but people are still using BBQs and camping stoves and smoking cigarettes so it's clearly not so common. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m reading a thread on Threads and people across the UK are talking about how last night people were lighting off fireworks and having bonfires and someone’s neighbor extinguished a bonfire over the fence…people need the alert. It’s a tinder box out there.

Apparently they reckon some of the fires might have been A-level students burning books and having BBQ celebrations for results day. Like idk how much more obvious it needs to be made to people.

Though obviously a lot of them are just arson too. I suspect over 50% of the Welsh valleys ones are deliberate.

The Welsh system of sending what is in essence gibberish (Welsh is a minority language and these are time sensitive) minutes before the English is bad I agree with that, but everyone is hating on the alert in general?

Soon the alerts shall only go out in Welsh, they're hopeful that will bring back the language where the signage, announcements, and schooling has failed to do so.

Our local wedding venue was planning to let off fireworks the other night until someone saw sense And as a response there are still some people posting in the village FB group saying some people have no sense of fun!

This thing of anytime you're told not to do something automatically being "the fun police" needs sorting at a societal level somehow.

didnt get the alert myself cuz 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 but if they could send the alerts Not As A Siren (or even just a text/similar) for this sort of thing that would be ideal yh problem is the fact that the ux is designed for "ur gonna die" so if its not urgent its really annoying

on the online list of alerts it just says england and wales,, idk if its to do w devolution or sthn but seemingly wasnt in northern ireland either 🤷

I would guess maybe Scotlands just not as hot and dry but then the fires in the Cairngorms were obviously awful so that's not really the case. Probably up to devolved governments like you say.
