Obsidian & Claude Cowork are doing all the house management and renovation tracking that I don't have brain space for right now. I ramble at Claude about things we need to fix in this very old and rundown Victorian we recent bought and it makes plans. Works great - both just operate on markdown.

Kept a color coded Notion system for our kitchen remodel for two years. Rambled at Claude about the bathroom for ten minutes. Better tracker. That Notion board is still open in a tab somewhere, judging me

Obsidian's Dataview plugin is basically databases for markdown nerds. Not as pretty as Notion tables out of the box, but Claude can generate the queries for you. The real win is everything lives as plain text files you actually own

Yeah Dataview makes all the good stuff possible! The best part is I didn’t even need to learn much about how it works or query lang. Just told Claude what I wanted and it made it happen.

Can I ask what information you gave alongside the prompt? Want to do something similar with our new house purchase and trying to think of what elements to give it as reference. Did you do floor plans etc?

I setup an obsidian vault and braindumped what I wanted into a plan.md file initially and the opened that in Claude Cowork. Messily listed out all the things I needed: projects to do, status of projects so far, contractors I’d already talked to, key house information, furniture to buy.

Then told Opus 4.6 to design a system for me to manage within Obsidian. Said I wanted to manage: - budget and spending - essential house info - regular maintenance tasks - renovation projects - furniture research and purchases Told it to use Dataview and make dashboards for each main project

I’m also doing a floor plan in Figma separately, but couldn’t figure out how to integrate it. Mostly using that as reference and to plan furniture layouts. Figured it doesn’t matter too much as long as the key info is written somewhere in the obsidian vault

Karpathy really shone a spotlight on this type of combo and it's so elegant. I use Notion and Obsidian with Openclaw, tentatively contemplating migrating fully from Notion to Obsidian for all 'second brain' stuff, but it's been with me for 5 years so it will be a long farewell probably.

5 years on a tool is a real moat — migration is mostly muscle memory. one thing notion can't do for you that obsidian can: cheap upstream capture. doesn't have to be obsidian itself, just something dumb and fast feeding the vault.

Have you taken Claude remote control for a spin? You can use the Claude app on your phone to drive a Claude code session on any other machine. Been using it on a raspberry pi to manage my vault. The obsidian sync CLI has made it much easier than it used to be.

YAS! I love using Obsidian with Cowork. I just set that up this week. I used Cloudflare to set up a remote server too so that I can do things while on my phone too (or when my mac is off). Totally recommend doing this.
