Ok, first positive vibe coding experience. I needed a plugin to calculate real time shipping prices for one of my web stores. The shop app (Woo) charges $90 a year for this. Claude Code was able to create a replacement in a couple of hours of prompting.

Why I vibe coded this: I'm not familiar with PHP and the Woo extension architecture. Could I have learned it? Yes. Do I have better things to do with my time? Also yes

I looked for an open source version of the plugin before deciding to vibe code it and didn't find one. I was willing to support the project if I had found one.

I'm a bit conflicted though. The immediate results are positive but is this the right thing to do given all the negative things that come with AI generation? There was no way for me to know if the $90 a year app was also AI generated.

Finally, what do people think about open sourcing something like this? Do I add the disclaimer it was vibe coded? Does it matter?

Personally I would, since whatever you think about these things, this implies a certain higher level of "no warranty included" than normal open source imho… (see e.g.: tangled.org/mackuba.eu/m...)

Setting aside the moral greyness of AI, it's a tool and it's out there. An experienced Dev carefully guiding, curating and testing an AI to a result will give a much better result and own that result more than a non-Dev throwing a general prompt at it to get some "slop" that works on the surface.
