maybe it’s the wrong thing to say but like, man, staff engineer was a title handed to me. but I’m already past “making enough to be comfortable”. i was as senior. i don’t desire to make work _more_ of my life. so like, telling me i’m super great in some areas, but im not “staff enough”? 1/

I really feel this, I really can't be bothered to pad out my promo packet with random bullshit. If I wanted to get a principal title, I'd just leave and re-interview instead of negotiating for a higher comp every year

it’s just so frustrating. and fucked up that i’ve baked “performing well at my job” into “is a happy and productive person”. i just feel trapped. maybe i am a decent staff engineer. but i’m afraid to apply for them now. i worry that i’d get looked at funny/rejected applying for “lower” positions. :/
