You know it's bad when this isn't an op-ed. It's a news article from the largest public broadcaster of the US's closest ally. Not really sure how the US comes back from this. Who wants an ally that just whimsically starts wars, threatens genocide, and tanks the global economy? Absolute clown show.

I can't see the election changing anyone's mind. Trump didn't vote himself into office twice, or force congress to sit back and do nothing while he waged an illegal war that explicitly violates the constitutional limits placed on his power. The US doesn't have a Trump problem, it has a US problem.

I guess my only consolation is most other large countries in the world have been one election away from the same thing. Most of Europe and Asia are teetering or over the edge. The only way out for folks who oppose this is allying with the countries who held off or voted out the problem.

I'm not in any way trying to excuse the disaster the US is making, but the best way out of this is hopefully a unified international coalition of "we're not doing that again".

People should see that this is the US. It's true, but also, I worry that any international leader is one leadership change away from this. How do we learn and improve from this globally?

In the US we clearly need to make changes to our constitution & system of government to strengthen checks and balances, and to address structural factors that let things get this bad (like a primary election system that can reinforce extremism). There are countries that do this better, to learn from

This conclusion assumes Trump and Elon didn’t cheat to “win” all seven battleground states while Democrats swept the “lower” offices of Senator, Representative, etc. In other words, Trump WAS NOT ELECTED OR RE-ELECTED.

It's not an assertion about the American people, but rather about the USA political system - everybody now sees that this system can repeatedly install someone like Trump, that the much-proclaimed constitutional safeguards don't really work, and without a major revamp of the system it could repeat.

Not worth replying, It's a disinformation bot account. They're scripted to pretend to be anti-Trump dems and push the narrative that the election was stolen. They did the same in 2020, but instead pretending to be MAGA voters claiming that Biden stole the election from Tump.

The US has the problem that both parties are controlled by Mossad. We have a Green party but thus far it has not managed a breakout like Zack Polanski looks set to achieve in the UK.

Agree & disagree. Most repubs in Congress hates him, including the military. They're primarily concerned with their own safety self & fam and their bank accts. There are a few diehards, but those are minority. We, unfortunately are hooked on the office itself- the one this mfkr needs to get out of!

Yes but the opposition doesn’t want to accept that’s the problem. They blame trump and he is the weakest link without the support he has.

America's problems are far deeper than Trump—they start with the fact that between 40 and 50 percent of Americans are avowed fascist Nazis and the country’s political, economic, and legal institutions are engineered to facilitate authoritarianism. Everything will only continue to get worse.

IMO the next non-Trump President will be such a relief that Europe will be eager to wishfully think this extremely weird period in US history is over and that the populist nativist Americans will never find another voice like Trump.
