The Magician's Nephew was my youngest's favourite Narnia book. We read it probably five or six times when she was little and yes, I can see what they've changed, but honestly it looks to me like it very much works, at least visually. And the kids look fab and so do the rings.

Realizing from Discourse I'm seeing that most people (?) hate the trailer? I still love it and cannot wait to see Gerwig's full vision on screen.

One thing about this book is that it has a lot of terrifying things in it and also many things that play as outright (dark) almost slapstick comedy (Jadis tearing up London, Uncle Andrew thinking he's got a chance to woo Jadis, etc). I will be really interested to see what Gerwig does to balance it.

I thought Jared Pechaček had an interesting critique/concern about the lack of silence and stillness in places like Charn or the uncreated Narnia. I enjoy the psychadelic rock aesthetic much more with the Jadis in London scenes than places where dead stillness did work in the books.

I don't know whether I will like it, but even if I don't, Gerwig clearly has her own clear and genuine vision for it and has brought thst vision to life. Got to respect her for that, at the very least. This doesn't look at all like bland franchise mush.

I'm wary about the CGI (marvel fatigue lol) but the overall vibe looks so bold and fun to me. I haven't read the book in a million years, so I can't speak to how it looks as an adaptation, but in terms of "new movie my kids might want to see that won't be agonizing for me" I'm excited haha

My main memory of the book from childhood was the guinea pigs. Googling it I'm horrified to discover some of them exploded. I was expecting a guinea pig in the trailer but now I'm hoping they've been edited out and no guinea pig explosions are shown.

Yeah, I'm wondering if the guinea pigs have been removed. I know some of them were wandering the wood between the worlds in the book, but the fate of the others was not so great.
