When people use AI to truly think for them, it's not a big leap to "I understand that cross thing means plus but I don't know what all those other shapes mean" when it comes to math skills

The phrasing of the prompt used, from what i've seen, more or less forces it. It basically says "solve trade deficits with tariffs, setting a baseline at 10%" and so... given that instruction that's what it comes up with. For fun, I tried it on Deepseek with reasoning on and...

I tested it in Gemini 2.5 Pro (experiential) and... It works. And Gemini is extremely insistent this is an *awful* idea.

Yup, some big brain thinking right there... These people appear to think that economics be it internal budgetary economics or trade macroeconomics should be a zero sum game... That is... very much not how reality works.

Or maybe that's their derivative of the original.
