I spent more time on this piece than almost anything else I've written in the last year. Building a better, more decentralized internet is an inherent necessity if you want a functioning democracy. I hope people find it a useful encapsulation of where we're at. www.liberalism.org/p/enshittifi...

liberalism.orgEnshittification, Despotification, and the Open InternetIt’s not about whether technology is inherently good or bad, liberating or oppressive. Architecture shapes incentives; incentives shape outcomes.

Masnick's article at LiberalismOrg ends with the sentence "The alternative is already visible. Two photos, fourteen years apart." I expected to see 2 photos. I have no idea what this is referring to. His article contains no photos.

The 1st link leads to a page with a single photo… the paragraph describes the scenario, but it doesn't directly mention the photo. The 2nd link leads to an article with multiple photos in it, I think you're referencing the 2nd photo and you have to scroll ½way down, may lead to some confusion.

I'll precede this by saying I don't think it's something that will actually cause a lot of consternation, and the way the commenter above referred to you in the 3rd person suggests they may in fact be a bot. With that said, I'll explain what I mean in more detail…

The first paragraph describes the scene w/o mentioning a photo. In context one can infer that link leads to a photo (which it does), but it's not necessary to follow the link & see the photo to understand the paragraph. If one doesn't follow the link, they might miss that a photo is being discussed.
