I think the announcement is being misunderstood a little - they're not ruling out the idea of matrix integration, from what i can tell, just holding off on the protocol work to get DMs into the product

hmmm. “We intend to iterate and fully support E2EE DMs as part of atproto itself” and “This will be a distinct part of the protocol from the repository abstraction” seemed pretty clear.

maybe! i think it would be good for bluesky and matrix to collaborate for sure
