Today's heat is serious. Temps will near 100 degrees, with potential for severe storms. City government is mobilizing every resource — opening hundreds of cooling centers, clearing catch basins, extending pool hours, deploying outreach teams and emergency crews — but we all have a role to play.

During storms, stay indoors if you can, avoid flooded streets, downed power lines and fallen trees, and use caution if you need to travel.

Call 311 to report hazards or if you see someone outside who may need help. Call 911 immediately for heat illness, rising floodwaters or any life-threatening emergency. Sign up for emergency alerts by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692. Stay safe and look out for each other, New York!
