it's once again that magical time of year when i spend a month telling myself "maybe if i watch a bunch of horror movies i'll come to like them." the stories look so interesting! but my closet is always so, so dark, and my glasses are never where i left them, when something half wakes me up at 3AM.

sure! i'm exaggerating a little bit, but i am always looking for more seasonal & spooky but not actually super scary movies. 🚫haunted house 🚫torture & extreme gore ✔️monsters & aliens ✔️psychos & slashers evil dead/2 is about the most intense as i can enjoy. i loved the alien movies through 4.

seen in the theater: saw 1 (too silly to be scary i thought) the ring (fucked me up good) the others (loved it because the twist made it unscary in retrospect) sleepy hollow (1999) might be my favorite halloween movie because it is 100% perfect atmosphere and not even the slightest bit scary

Cabin in the Woods is a lot of fun if you go in as blind as possible. Texas Chainsaw is excellent but it’s real dated. Still solid but noticeable. If you want to check out Halloween the original is still great and the 2017 or 18 one was a nice follow up but the rest are…eh.

As far as newish recs Smile 1 and 2 have some jumpscares but we’re very solid. The Monkey was an awesome black comedy. Talk To Me was a blast. For indie things Marshmallow was a fun kids summer camp horror. MadS was great too. French film in one long take.
